Morphett's dream came true on Tuesday night when she was selected by the Giants with pick 37 in the AFL Women's (AFLW) Draft.
Just three years after trying Australian rules for a bit of fun, Morphett now finds herself at the elite level after being snapped up by the Giants with their first pick.
Being the first NSW selection in the draft, Morphett earned herself a $5000 bonus.
The 17-year-old watched the moment unfold on the big screen at the Kooringal Hotel, surrounded by family and friends.
Morphett said it was a dream come true.
"Oh my God, it's so amazing. I'm speechless at the moment. It's very exciting," Morphett said.
"I can't wait. It's pretty exciting. I think Mum and Dad are pretty happy about me moving out, that's for sure. I can't wait to go live up in Sydney. I might get home sick at times but you've got to push past that stuff."
Morphett, who captained the Allies at the under 19 national championships, was a national champion in barrel racing before she tried Australian rules with friends at Wagga High School.
It resulted in a remarkable three-year journey, where she quickly excelled through the ranks from East Wagga-Kooringal in the youth girls competition, to Murray Bushrangers, Belconnen, Giants Academy, Allies and now GWS.
At 188cm, Morphett is a ruck, who also has the ability to go forward with strong contested marking ability.
Morphett thanked her two biggest supporters, parents Paul and Rebecca, for everything they had done to provide her with the best possible chance to be drafted.
"It's been a lot of hard work, especially because we travel a lot. Spending nearly 10 hours in the car nearly every week," she said.
"Mum and Dad also work harder than me, I would say. Mum stays up past 12 o'clock just to get the work done that she's missed. A massive shout out and thank you to them, I honestly wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them.
"I've learnt so much off everyone, they've pretty much pushed me and taken me the whole way. Every coach that I've had has put 110 per cent effort into me and I'm very grateful for all of the past coaches that I've had."
