A man has been injured while trying to prevent his car from being stolen in Ballarat East earlier this morning.

Police investigators have been told the victim, a 22-year-old man, woke to the sound of his car being started about 2.15am.
He stepped outside his York Street home to investigate, finding a man inside his 4WD and attempting to steal it.
The victim approached the male and grabbed him through the open door, before the offender assaulted him with a weapon.
The victim was struck to the chest, resulting in a deep laceration.
IN OTHER NEWS
A second male offender, who was nearby in a red Holden Commodore, then drove at the victim and narrowly missed him.
The two offenders then fled in the Holden Commodore.
The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The Ballarat Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
