She is in a 21-strong squad and one of 15 making their debuts as an Opal in the tournament on September 26 to October 3.
Wehrung, 25, a former Phoenix junior from Korweinguboora, has worked her way through a variety of pathways to reach the pinnacle in Australian women's basketball, including moving to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra as a teenager.
Wehrung was a gold medallist as a junior with Australia's under-16 team at the 2011 FIBA Oceania Championships.
She then represented Australia at the 2012 FIBA World Under-17 Championships in the Netherlands.
The point guard also tasted success on the international stage in 2017 as a pivotal player for the Emerging Opals squad that took out gold at the World University Games.
The former Ballarat Rush player began her WNBL career with Canberra Capitals in 2014 before returning to Victoria to play with Bendigo Spirit in 2018. She is now with Adelaide Lightning, which she joined last year.
Wehrung also continues to carve out her trade in NBL1 with Bendigo Spirit.
Australia has a strong record in the Asia Cup, having won silver in 2017 and bronze in 2019, but faces tough competition against the likes of Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Japan and China, which defeated Australia in the group phase in Tokyo.
Asia Cup campaign head coach Paul Goriss said the Asia Cup provided an opportunity to gain critical international experience for a new crop of players.
"I have no doubt we will see the best these players have to offer when they put on the green and gold.
"We won't have much preparation time so we will rely on good chemistry, a team focus on defence and playing hard with our energy and effort," he said.
Opals had coach Sandy Brondello said from the US that Australia had great opportunity over the next 12 months to reset and build towards a home World Cup next September.
"This is a great opportunity for this group to gain valuable international exposure and experience."
Former Ballarat Rush playter Alice Kunek is also part of the squad.
