CHFL manager Diane Ryan told The Courier no decision had been made on whether it would be held on Zoom or in person, but her preference was the latter.
"I just think it doesn't matter when you hold it, it doesn't matter if it's in October or September or November, I think the players, they still deserve that night, to walk up and get their award," she said.
"They've had a lot taken off them this season.
"I need to get well over 200 people in the room so that's what we're hoping for."
CHNL president Natalie Clarke echoed Ryan's comments.
"I reckon we need to make a night of it if we possibly can," she said.
"If it gets to the point where we can't get that many people into a room then we'll certainly look at other options.
"I certainly would push it as late as possible, it doesn't matter if we don't have it until the week of the grand final ..."
The junior football presentation night was originally scheduled for August 16.
Ryan is hoping to still host that in person too.
"I want to give them (the Ballarat and District Trotting Club) some business," Ryan said.
"They're struggling as well, if you do it by Zoom they miss out on two dinners."
The Zoom option was explored by the CHNL for its junior awards night and was a raging success.
"The junior one went really, really well last Tuesday night," Clarke said.
"The clubs' feedback has been amazing."
An official decision on both nights will be made by the board in the coming weeks.
