While this year's traditional get-together won't happen, the Rotary Club of Alfredton has worked out plenty of different events that the whole family can get involved in.

The Halloween event has for a second successive year moved online with colouring and spooky photos competitions, and for those keen to get outside, a display in the window of 27 Sturt Street.

Rotary Club of Alfredton president Denise Lyons said this is the fifth year the community Halloween event had been run, but the second online.

"Prior to COVID restrictions, Alfredton Rotary's Halloween party built up a huge following that grew each year the event was held and to avoid disappointing their fans, last year we decided that the best way to give back to the community was to take the event online so everyone could still participate," Ms Lyons said.

"This year the online event has grown to be a combination of a colouring competition for up to 12-year-old children, along with a spooky photo competition that also includes a category for your pet to dress up."

The scary monsters will be on display until October 31, with some new additions added to the mix this year.

"There are some fabulous prizes to be won in both competitions and all details will also be posted on the Alfredton Rotary Facebook page," Ms Lyons said.

Meanwhile, those looking to trick-or-treat on Sunday night need to remember some restrictions will remain in place despite Victoria expecting to hit 80 per cent double-vaccination on Friday.

If you do trick-or-treat, it's important to remain safe by not using communal bowls when handing out lollies as putting lollies in shared bowls will mean everyone is touching the same food. If possible, use individually wrapped lollies and leave them for non-contact collection.
