Buninyong Primary, Damascus College closed after COVID cases

Families of Buninyong Primary students were notified around 10.30pm on Wednesday night that the school would be closed for deep cleaning and contact tracing on Thursday.

Damascus students learned on Thursday afternoon there had been a positive case attend on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Students and staff initially identified as close contacts were sent home during the afternoon.

"Our school will be closed tomorrow Friday 29^th October as a precaution to identify any further students and staff who may have had close contact. There will be no remote learning or other school activities occurring tomorrow with the exception of unit 3/4 vce exams," the school stated in a letter to families.

"There is no current evidence of exposure to year 12 students or the examination centre as an exposure site. Students should attend exams as planned and may make contact their teachers regarding study support if needed."

If any VCE unit 3/4 students are identified as a primary close contact, there are provisions for them to safely undertake their exams at the school.

Buninyong Primary and Damascus College are the latest in a string of COVID-related school closures across Ballarat this month.

Alfredton Primary School was closed for a week while Delacombe Primary, Black Hill Primary, St James Primary, Woodmans Hill Secondary College, Phoenix P-12 Community College and Federaton TAFE have all faced closures or disruption resulting from COVID cases.
