The $30,000 Petrogas Burrumbeet Cup field is again dominated by hometown trainers, with six of the nine acceptors from Ballarat stables.
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have two runners, while Thomas Carberry, Henry Dwyer, Dan O'Sullivan and Melody Cunningham are also representatives.
For all the Ballarat trainers who have won the New Year's Day feature, Carberry in the only one in this group to have put his hands on the trophy.
Carberry is attempting to become the first trainer in 16 years to go back-to-back.
He is trying to make it two in a row with Diplomac Jack - a feat last achieved by Darren Weir with Surfie Pete in 2014 and 2015.
Court Deep, which won the Penshurst Cup two starts ago, from the Maher-Eustace barn is top weight with 58.5kg. Dilpomac Jack and the Dwyer-trained Under Oath each have 56.5kg, with the other six runners on the 55kg minimum.
Stawell-based Andrew Bobbin will have two starters - Mighty Oasis and Mangione.
Cunningham is saddling up a relative newcomer to her team, Battle Plane.
The six-year-old is much travelled, having started his career in New South Wales and then had an extensive period in Queensland with several trainers.
He had his first start for Cunningham at Kyneton on December 16.
