Originally scheduled to run from August 28 to October 24, its opening weekend was marred with a snap lockdown called, one of several during the biennale's run.
The 2021 BIFB was twice opened and closed because of COVID before a decision was made to extend the biennial event to January 9 to enable as many visitors as possible to enjoy the exhibitions scattered around Ballarat.
The BIFB's headline exhibition, Linda McCartney: Retrospective at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, has enjoyed strong visitation particularly over recent weeks.
The retrospective exhibition, curated by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney and shown for the first time in Australia, features more than 200 photographs from Linda McCartney including family photographs, the 1960s music scene and a series of prints from the McCartney's time in Australia.
Also popular have been core program exhibitions including Number One | Gudinski, a collection of works from music photographers featuring artists under the Mushroom Group and Frontier Touring banner in tribute to Michael Gudinski, Erik Kessel's 24HRS in Photos at St Andrew's Uniting Church, and Alix Marie's FRAStyx at the National Centre for Photography.
IN OTHER NEWS
Last month Ballarat International Foto Biennale artistic director and chief executive Fiona Sweet stepped down from her role.
"For the past five years, Fiona's vibrant and dynamic style has brought a spotlight to the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, bringing world-renowned artists to regional Victoria, offering opportunities for new and emerging artists, and significantly increased audiences and community participation," the BIFB board wrote in a statement.
"The creation of the National Centre For Photography, Australia's only regional contemporary gallery dedicated to photography will remain evident for many years into the future, showcasing Fiona's passion and vision."
