A Ukrainian military plane has been shot down and five people killed, Ukrainian police and the state emergency service say, as its armed forces seek to defend against a massive Russian military operation.

Russian forces invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea on Thursday in the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War Two.
The Ukrainian Defence Ministry also said Russian troops had attacked an airfield near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, with at least three Russian helicopters subsequently shot down, DPA is reporting.
The Hostomel airfield is located about 30 kilometres north-west of the centre of the Ukrainian capital.
There was no independent confirmation of reports that Russian troops had taken control of the airport.
An adviser to Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko shared videos on Facebook of what he said were Russian helicopters that had been downed.
