The three-time Tigers premiership captain will face the Cats at Ballan in round eight on Saturday, June 1.
The Blues secured Cotchin in the AFL Carlton Draft, which offered the services of some of the game's stars to five country clubs.
Cotchin said he was excited by the prospect of playing country footy
"You grow up watching the seniors and realise how big it is for the community."
He said he was looking forward to the community atmosphere, with families, young kids and people from all walks of life in the community having a great day out.
Cotchin said while it would be strange pulling on a navy blue guernsey, his mother had barracked for Carlton so he had always had a soft spot for the Blues.
He said he was looking forward to playing in various roles.
Ballan president David O'Hanlon said having a player of the calibre of Cotchin be part of the club for a day was enormous.
"To get a super star who just about everybody in the country knows is pretty special. It's massive."
O'Hanlon said Cotchin would probably get a run through the midfield and hopefully give the crowd something to celebrate by kicking a goal.
The 33-year-old Cotchin retired as a player at the end of last season.
He played 306 games with the Tigers in a career which started in 2008 after he was drafted in 2007 with pick two via Northern Knights and West Preston Lakeside Football Club.
Cotchin was Richmond premiership captain in 2017-19-20, won the 2012 Brownlow Medal and was a 2012 All-Australian.
