WAUBRA has added influential Lake Wendouree onballer Lincoln Barnes to a squad coach Grant Luscombe believes is good enough to claim the Central Highlands Football League title.
Luscombe confirmed Barnes had joined the club after leaving Ballarat league side Lake Wendouree, where he has played all of his senior career.
Barnes arrives at the Roos as a top midfield option and will be backed up by fellow Ballarat league signings Ash Ballinger, from Redan, and Will Corbett, from Ballarat Swans.
Luscombe said Barnes, who featured in the Lakers’ best on six occasions last season, would also fill the role of fitness coach.
Now entering his second season at the helm, Luscombe told The Courier the three players would all be good long-term acquisitions for Waubra.
He said the team was hit badly with injuries last year before its elimination final exit at the hands of Ballan.
“I think we are pretty similar to last year, so I definitely think we’ve got the team that can win it, although a lot of teams have recruited really well,” Luscombe said.
Some of the major losses from the 2015 side include tall duo Josh Discher and Brad Neurath.
Waubra opens its 2016 campaign with a home clash against Carngham-Linton on April 9.
