Mt Clear College student Wakaba Shudo is dancing her way to the top of the class next week, with an appearance at the VCE Top Class performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre on February 25th.
Ms Shudo is an exchange student from Hyogo Prefecture in Japan. She says she began to learn to dance at the age of three, after her sister started to take lessons. While in Australia she has been a principal dancer for the State School Spectacular 2015, and takes classes in hiphop and and street dancing weekly in Melbourne.
Mt Clear College teacher Sue Broadway says students in the VET who receive an A+ grade are invited to audition for Top Class, and Ms Shudo was accepted for her hiphop dance. While Ms Shudo was in Japan at the time of the auditions, Sue Broadway entered her auditions via video.
“They selected her hip hop dance which was very exciting because we did a lot of emailing and Facebooking trying to organise things.”
While she was selected for her hiphop styles, Ms Shudo prefers to dance in the style of lyrical jazz.
“I have had a very good experience dancing here,” she says. “I enjoy working with very high-skilled dancers.”
