The idea created a domino effect in collaborations and children, including her nephew Billy, emptying out their moneyboxes to tally $20,000.
Paris had put out word of her blow-wave day on social media shortly before 6pm on Friday evening and was booked out when stepping into her salon, Fringe by Paris, the next morning.
One client's grandfather had been directly impacted by the fires ravaging east Gippsland. Others queued up because they thought it was a nice idea. A few woman popped in to get their hair done for weddings they might otherwise have self-styled.
Paris' blow-wave efforts raised about $3400 plus extra donation, all which Paris had planned to match personally. Friends from F45 Training gym in Ballarat also decided to match the tally, a couple of other small businesses donated $5000 and family and friends pooled their resources.
"There was lots of collaboration and others doing things to raise money in town," Paris said. "We were down in Ocean Grove and there's all the smoke blowing in, covering the roads, and it was really eerie and foggy. You could only imagine people in pitch black from the smoke in the fire zones.
"I thought, what can I do - I could donate my time to anyone who's around Ballarat happy to get their hair done."
MORE HELPERS
Paris said clients were keen to do something for charity. She said there was so much shock and devastation at the scenes unfolding, particularly in this state, so many people in Ballarat just wanted to find ways to do whatever they could to help.
More important, Paris and her clients wanted to thank the region's firefighters for their efforts on the fire front.
Money raised via the Fringe by Paris fundraiser will be equally split between Australian wildlife rescue organisation WIRES and Salvation Army's disaster relief appeal partnership with Foodbank.
