INITIAL STORY: A punter who attended the Golden Plains Music Festival has been confirmed to have attracted the coronavirus.
The festival, held at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, ran over the Labour Day long weekend.
People were in the area from approximately March 6-10.
It is not yet known where the person who contracted the virus is from.
Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos told a press conference that one person who attended the festival, near the small town of Meredith, had tested positive.
"I understand now we've had one person who has been diagnosed ... for COVID-19," she said.
There were approximately 12,000 people who attended the festival, with the majority coming from Ballarat, Geelong and Melbourne.
The festival site is about 40km from Ballarat.
All attendees to the festival camped on site.
There were visible signs around the festival site, encouraging proper hygiene and urging people to take precautions.
There were also regular audio announcements reminding punters of good hygiene. Hand sanitiser was also widely available at the festival.
