"It was a fantastic win, I thought we had the worst of the conditions on a sticky wicket," said East all-rounder Harry Ganley.
"They've lost a couple of players but they've still got some handy cricketers and we knew it was going to be tough and we had to play tough cricket to get the win."
Opener Blake Thomson's knock of 71 led a balanced first innings effort for the Hawks. He was backed up by Jack Lalor (61) and Ganley who made an efficient 44 off 33. Ganley, who took two second innings wickets also, praised his team's effort.
"The two openers did a fantastic job and Jack Lalor showed his class," he said.
"We all contributed well and bowled to a plan and took our catches."
Lewis Hodgins anchored East's attack with figures of 3-7, while Oliver Hayes was also solid, taking 2-19.
Darley import Danza Hyatt provided some resistance, taking four scalps before making 26 with the bat.
The loss marked the first since the 2018-19 season for the Lions. Darley captain Brad Barnes said the defeat was a reality check for the club.
"Our fielding was very ordinary, our bowlers bowled well but our output in the field probably let them down," he said.
"Hopefully we'll put our best foot forward next week."
