Shane Caldow was driving a yellow Ford sedan in a dangerous manner along Ballarat's main street on February 11, last year, when conditions were wet and dark.

Police saw him spinning the vehicle's wheels and intentionally swerving from lane to lane, the Ballarat Magistrates' Court was told on Wednesday.

When intercepted, Caldow gave police a current Victorian learners driver's licence but he did not have an experienced driver with him and had not displayed his L-plates.

Caldow's car was impounded for one month at a cost of $1200.

He told police he was going to pick up his girlfriend and he was stupid for driving his car and he was sorry.

The court was told Caldow had been kicked out of his mother's Wendouree house and was asked to collect his belongings on April 11, but he did not show up.

He attended two days later, banged the back of the house and entered his old bedroom.

Caldow's sister saw him and when she telephoned their mother, Caldow raised his fist causing his sister to fear she was going to be assaulted.

Caldow tried to take the phone off her but he failed.

The police located him in Mildura one month later and he refused to be interviewed about the incident.

The court was told Caldow was sentenced to prison in July and the current matters were not ready to proceed.

Caldow's lawyer said his client had not re-offended since July and he was progressing well on a community corrections order.

He said Caldow had an intellectual disability, had gained employment and was benefiting from the NDIS program.

The lawyer urged the court not to interfere with Caldow's licence because he required it for his job.

Magistrate Letizia Torres gave Caldow, who appeared via a video link, a sentence indication which he accepted and pleaded guilty.

He was convicted and fined $400. The court did not make an order against his licence.
