City Oval's Wayne Roberts and Sandy Grano have taken out the men's and women's Ballarat District Bowls Division champion of champions event at the weekend.

Roberts, who defeated Linton's club champion Craig Williams in a semi-final, went up against Invermay club champion Jarrod Evans.

It looked as if Evans may claim victory late in the piece, sitting on 24 shots and holding two bowls in the count for the end.
A weighted shot from Roberts into the head resulted in one of his front bowls rolling in for shot and evened the score at 24-all.
In the final end Roberts consistently drew well scoring the required shot to take out the title, 25-24.
Grano, who defeated Victoria's club champion Helene Stenning in a semi-final, went up against Creswick's Beth Huntley.
She was able to take out a tight three shot victory, 25-22. Scores were level at the conclusion of the third end.
Grano then raced out to a nine shot lead by the end of the 13th end. Huntley hit back, reducing the deficit to five and continuing her momentum to cut the deficit to just two.
Grano held her nerve however, claiming the final shot to take the victory.
Sebastopol's John Garvin and City Oval's Janine Roberts claimed the men's and women's over 60s championship at the weekend also.
Garvin dominated in the semi-final and championship fixture.
He defeated Bungaree's Terrance Maher in the semi-final to set up his fixture with Webbcona's Colin Young to battle for the final.
He continued his dominant form here, only losing four ends by a single shot, managing to win by 17 shots, 21-4.
Roberts defeated Webbcona's Jenny Shepherd by six shots in the semi-final to set up her final matchup with Lynette Bryce from BMS.
She prevailed in a tight battle 21-19. Scores were level at the fifth end however, by the end of the eighth end Bryce had taken a four shot lead.
Roberts returned fire to take the lead by five shots. From there it was an inconsistent margin, Roberts leading by seven shots at one point.
Bryce returned serve to cut the deficit to one, 20-19.
Roberts held her nerve however, scoring the final shot to take a two shot win.
All four bowlers will now represent the Ballarat District Bowls Division at the regional finals.
