The Lions sit sixth on the ladder, four points clear of their chasers, but own one of the worst attacking records in the Ballarat Football Netball League.

Eighty-seven majors to date see Giampaolo's side sit seventh on the league's goalkicking ranks.

Bacchus Marsh (84) is the only other side currently in a finals spot with a worse goal-kicking record.

Redan's scoring shot efficiency of 76.9 per cent is also the second-worst in the competition.

It's only marginally better than bottom-placed Sunbury (75.7 per cent) and nearly 10 per cent off Lake Wendouree (85.4 per cent) in ninth.

Giampaolo felt his side was guilty of failing to execute at times this season.

"We're still able to get plenty of inside 50s; it's just our connection isn't quite there at the moment," he said.

"We've moved the footy quite well up from the defensive half and linked really well. It's just that last kick inside 50 that costs us a fair few easy shots on goal.

"When you're kicking the footy low and flat at the opposition, that's not ideal."

Lachie George has proved the Lions' main source of goals, kicking 13 to date.

With George spending time in the midfield, it's also fallen on young Izaac Grant to lead the attack.

The 20-year-old has impressed in his first BFNL senior season, kicking 13 goals, but gives up size on more-seasoned opponents.

With Dean Chester in-and-out of the side and tall timber Liam Hoy and Orren Stephenson sidelined by injuries, its left a bit of a puzzle for Giampaolo and his coaching group.

The Lions leader said finding a way to fire in attack was a big focus for the season.

"(Finding ways inside 50) is something that we've been working on all year. It's not anything new," he said.

"We keep working on ways we want to get the footy inside our 50 because we don't have that big key forward that can come and crash packs.

"We're quite a small forward line so we just need to enter our 50 differently to how other sides might.

"Our boys are aware of that, and now we're trying to work on that and improve it."

The Lions meet third-placed East Point at Eastern Oval this weekend; a win the only thing keeping their fate in their own hands.

A win could put them as high as third, dependent on the result between Bacchus Marsh and Melton.

A loss could sink the Lions to eighth if Sebastopol beats Melton South.
