Police discovered the body of 33-year-old Dannyll Goodsell at a Kenworthy Place residence on October 5 while conducting a welfare check.
A small fire was burning at the residence at the time which was extinguished.
On October 23, another suspicious fire broke out at the same address, causing extensive damage to the house.
Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 35-year-old man in Ballarat on October 6 in relation to the alleged murder.
The Mount Pleasant man was charged with one count of murder and has been remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates Court on February 7 next year.
But they still are seeking information regarding the second fire.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Kenworthy Place between 3.30am and 8am on October 5 and may have witnessed something suspicious to contact them.
Anyone who witnessed a man on that date walking on Flockhart Street and carrying a black backpack is being encouraged to contact police. Investigators are also trying to identify a man and a woman who boarded a bus in the area shortly after 8am.
